Workshop Summary & Scientific Program

Join MIMETAS and Molecular Devices for a scientific event focused on organ-on-a-chip technology for human tissue modeling in drug discovery. This in-person meeting will highlight how peer scientists are using the OrganoPlate® platform to develop perfused 3D tissue models that provide physiologically relevant insights into human biology. The program will include presentations from invited scientists, as well as live demonstrations of the OrganoReady® Colon Organoid model with barrier integrity measurements using the OrganoTEER, and fluorescent imaging on the ImageXpress.

Scientific speakers will present their work on:
· Automation of the OrganoPlate platform
· OrganoReady Colon Organoid for ADME/tox applications
· Barrier intergrity assessment of colon organoid tubules by rapid OrganoTEER measurement

Validating Intestinal Toxicity in 3D Human Microvessels

Together with Merck, MIMETAS validated an OrganoPlate® intestinal model using Caco-2 cells to evaluate GI toxicity. The platform effectively distinguished between toxic and non-toxic compounds based on TEER responses, confirming its value as a predictive tool for preclinical drug safety assessment.

Cancer Metastasis-on-Chip for Drug Discovery

Scientists from Hamad bin Khalifa University developed a  model combining breast cancer cells, fibroblasts, and perfused microvessels to study early metastasis. Using high-content imaging, they screened an anti-cancer drug library and found compounds like Imatinib that reduced tumor invasion and intravasation by strengthening the endothelial barrier.

NFκB-driven inflammation in 3D microvessels

Using the OrganoPlate platform, researchers from Mahidol University modeled human microvessels and showed how TNFα triggers loss of barrier function, immune cell adhesion, and cytokine release via NFκB signaling. This highlights the platform’s value for studying vascular inflammation and drug responses.
